Botanical Christmas Wreath
The holidays are such an enchanted time of year, we love seeing the kids eyes light up as they create their wishlists and put the decorations on the tree. It’s the height of summer here in ‘Oz so we do have a little twist on the traditional holiday cheer (Christmas Palm trees and taking the whole family to the beach on Christmas day!!) but when Jess from Poppy & Fern asked us if we’d like to make our own Botanical Wreath we lit up at the chance!
What you will need:
Thick sturdy wire
Thin wire or twine
Cutters
Dodda Vine or any type of flexible vine, could also use straw or long grasses
Mixed foliage that lasts well or will dry nicely
Botanicals (flowers, succulents, seed pods, pine cones, gum nuts)
DIY STEPS:
Step 1: Start by making a round base using your thick wire, we used fencing wire but you could use anything strong enough to create a sturdy base. Tie or tape ends so this is secure.
Step 2: Wrap the dodda vine the entire way around the wire using thin wire or twine to secure the vine to your base wire.
Step 3: Tie on your foliage using the thin wire or twine, starting in one section and moving around the circle until you have covered the entire wreath.
Step 4: Decorate with your botanicals! Add flowers, succulents, pine cones, baby’s breath, feathers, and anything else you have gathered to personalise your wreath.
Hang on your front door and invite the girls around for a cocktail or two to get into the Holiday spirit!
xx
PS – for those of you Byron bound, Jess is hosting a workshop at Villa Rustica this Sunday 11th December where you can design and create your own wreath ~ full details below x
