Since 2021, our denim continues to be responsibly created in partnership with Outland Denim. In every way, Outland create denim responsibly, and we are so proud to be aligned with an industry leader who uses innovative technology to substantially reduce the environmental impact of each individual denim garment they produce.
When we visited the Outland team in Cambodia we were so excited to see some of their innovative processes in action ~ in particular the laser technology that was being used in our upcoming Road Trip denim pieces from our latest collection Sunshine Bandit.
You know that well worn look in denim we all love? These effects are usually done by using manual abrasion or harmful chemicals. Lasers can replace these methods to achieve the same look with lower impact.
We chose to use the laser a little differently: our denim styles feature our bespoke bandanna-inspired artwork that utilises laser technology to individually print the artwork onto each piece.
Each garment is fitted to the machine and the print placement is mapped on screen, before the laser applies heat energy to the indigo molecules on the fibre. By turning them from solid to gas, the molecules leave the surface of the fibres, leaving behind a unique print effect on each garment individually in just 2-3 minutes.
